Dowsers out to prove themselves

Postby Grahame Gardner » Sat Sep 25, 2010 9:38 am

Another news item about Conference from 'Mysteries of the Unexplained' blog. This is basically a re-hash of Geoff Ward's article.
A new study aimed at proving how the ancient art of dowsing actually works and bringing it to the attention of a wider public is being launched under the aegis of the British Society of Dowsers. Dowsers Adrian Incledon-Webber and Hugo Jenks announced their study at the British Society of Dowsers annual conference, held on the weekend of September 10-12 at the Royal College of Agriculture, Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

They will be working with medical electronics specialist and biophysicist Giovanni Orlando, and the investigation will last for at least a year and possibly two. It will focus on a study group of 10-12 people – a mixture of experienced dowsers, healers and non-dowsers – and, using brain and body scanning techniques, will measure their neuro-physiological responses as they wield rods and pendulums.

‘It’s not about why it works, but how,’ said Adrian, chairman of the BSD’s earth energies group. ‘We’re not trying to prove it to scientists - they are such a sceptical bunch anyway - but rather to bring in the public and perhaps stimulate interest among scientists. We want to find out where the dowsing response comes from. We know there’s a muscular response but we want to find out why it happens.’

Will it be based on a group of BSD MEMBERS, or people prepared to visit the lab where the tests are taking place who have a record of proved dowsing results, I would think it best of all to have those people who are known to have good results/work recorded to try out first, since the numbers are only small and the best people should be approached first. It may prove to show only small changes occur when dowsing from the normal situation of everyday life, my bet would be all the dowsers show a slow heart beat, slower than the norm at least, just a guess, say 35-45 per minute.

One year along the yellow brick road... How is this research project going now. Can we have an update please.
As a practising full-time professional dowser of 17 years standing I have often thought about doing this kind of research and, if you still want good subjects for the study, I'm interested in participating. Look me up at www.geodivining.com

Thanks for the offer Doug - I'll pass it along to the EEG.
As far as I know, there hasn't been much progress with this project as Giovanni has been undergoing some major changes in personal circumstances and hasn't had the time to progress the research. The EEG are still considering alternative options.

Lucy Pringle did this sort of research many years ago in crop circles to try and find what happens to people within the design of a crop circle compared to outside the design, it was not as complex as the second study but some sort of bio feed back research while dowsing/healing inside a crop circle.A genuine/paranormal crop circle is a MOST powerful place to be when its just formed, some energies do decay a week afterwards but always the imprint/design area remains active for at least a year afterwards, and its possible to dowse those places months after the summers crops have been harvested and the field in question re-seeded....I thought if a dowser wore a skull cap like a metal hat a soldier wore or perhaps a skull cap of cooking silver foil would that STOP you dowsing, shutting off the conditions for dowsing like the influence you pick up around you...Never tried it as the family think Im nuts already, walking around indoors with a tin foil hat on might spook the grandkids at the weekend,or bring those nice men in white coats to the door sooner....Be interesting to try a blood pressure monitor on while dowsing, and see if your heart/blood pressure readings change.....Another thought I had was two dowsers stand on an active energy line in the right direction with one asking questions in his/her mind of the other who stands some distance away.To allow the energy line to piggy back the question/influence to the other dowser some distance away,AFTER they both tune into the energy line, say count 1-10 and see if the other dowser can get better than average answers right.Carry a pack of playing cards and ask the down line dowser to guess the right colour and number of the card. All very un- scientific but well worth a try to see if thoughts/actions can be piggy backed on an energy line, after all, someone hears your thoughts when you are dowsing down them I believe, I always get the right answers anyway, things I could NOT know.
