Water facts and figures

Did you know that the world uses:
70 percent freshwater for irrigation
22 percent freshwater for industry
8 percent freshwater for domestic use
184 litres of water for a bag of potato crisps
200 litres of water for a glass of milk
2400 litres of water for a hamburger
16000 litres of water is needed to produce one kilogram of beef
between 1991 and 2000 over 665,000 people died in 2,557 natural disasters of which 90 percent were water-related events.

And many other statistics from here, the IFAD website
As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Scary stats.
I believe the next world war/upheaval will be - never mind democracy or oil - about water.

I would also like to know what this country is doing to take advantage of the masses of rain that have fallen here in the last year.
And if they impose a hosepipe ban this year - even for a week! - some politicians' heads should roll!

very interesting,

I caught this a few days ago, completely unrelated but shocked me...

It is statistics about poverty,

"Almost half the world — over three billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day. Approx £1.58"

that statistic is not necessarily indicating poverty, I found it was an interesting statistic, about lifestyles. -

I ask you this question, think that for the average person you meet if you were to ask them this question "what would you have to have in order to be content", what their answers would be.

Then ask a group of folk who have a comfortable lifestyle who live on £1.58 a day the same.

I bet the results would be worth a look!

best wishes
