Due to restart this March, BBC 2 did a docu on Horizon tonight called Dancing in the Dark - the End of physics? Anyone watch this?
What came through, to me, was that so many billions of $$$s have been spent on observatories, laboratories, extraordinary machines etc to discover the origin of the Universe, Dark Matter, Dark Energy et al - yet at the end of it all, they know nothing!! It all seems to be theory, guesswork, and a huge dollop of hope & expectation. And of course, lots & lots of 'mad professors' in chaotic offices with reams of paperwork everywhere.... :P Iplayer link here.
This was reflected rather well in David Mitchell's rather controlled-tongue-in-cheek commentary.

And thousands of people are having to resort to food banks, and peoples the world over are killing each other for dubious reasons (eg. religious beliefs). Something very very wrong somewhere.
