Goodbye Google Reader

Postby Ian Pegler » Tue Jun 18, 2013 6:23 am

I think the folks at Google must be a bit mad, retiring Google Reader, surely a very popular product. What will they replace it with?

More to the point, I do rely on it for finding news stories myself, for this forum - so what am I going to use instead?

Any suggestions welcome.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it - Terry Pratchett.

Wow, that was actually reasonably painless.

Many thanks

I'm using feedly. Worked fine until I had to "reset" Firefox to its default condition.

Now, every time I try to install the feedly extension it says that it's there but nothing happens. I can use the "cloud" version but every time I login I have to import my Google Reader data again.

FWIW- I have found that some FF Add-ons need to be disabled and then re-enabled to get them to work after a FF update.
As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Thanks Simon, tried it, no joy.

I have until Monday, then it gets interesting. How will Feedly get my data from Google if Google have closed down Reader?

Or am I worrying too much?

Fans braced for Google Reader's demise flock to new services
