Strange link behaviour

Postby Ian Pegler » Sat Jan 23, 2010 8:15 am

More recently I have noticed that the links to other threads have been behaving in a very peculiar way.

External links work just fine but a link such as

http://www.britishdowsers.org/forum/vie ... f=6&t=1356

Will take you to the wrong place.

Is it just me?

That's odd, isn't it? It hasn't done that before. I'll have a fiddle with the settings and see if I can find anything.

There's still problems with links, e.g. there's a link to a BSD thread on this page, but it just leads to the top level instead.

The link seems to have changed. When I search for the thread manually it comes up with a different link. I can't remember if that thread has been moved or not, but possibly it's something to do with that?

Ah yes, it was moved from the Media section to the General Section. I'll let them know.

Here's an interesting thing:

The following link used to work but doesn't anymore...

http://www.britishdowsers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1427

The link to the same topic (that works) is this one...

http://forum.britishdowsers.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1427

Note the subtle change in the URL...

Trouble is that the old style link is used in loads of existing posts...

Ah yes - that's because the forum was moved out of the BSD domain onto a different server, as we were still causing security problems with the online shop. I don't think there's anything we can do about the faulty links unfortunately, short of updating them when you come across one.

We seem to have been hacked again. I've just deleted several users who were spammers. Some spam was posted on the board - now deleted.

I went out for the day yesterday, otherwise I would have dealt with it sooner.

Gosh. sorry I missed all the excitement, Ian. I was travelling to Stornoway yesterday so didn't manage to get online until this afternoon.
Good job cleaning up!

I'm afraid all is still not well as I'm unable to get through to "view active topics"

I've logged in after just 2 days away. "Check new posts" gives me 77 to read! Shum mishtake shurely?

I have not been abke to 'view active topics' for the last few days, so I deleted the BSD Forum bookmarked item and then accessed the Forum again and re- bookmarked the site. I can now access 'view active topics'.
